JOHNNY RECON Vinyl Banner pencils n’stuff.
Happy Wednesday everyone!  Only two short days till the hometown release party of JOHNNY RECON No. 01.  I’m really excited and can’t wait to celebrate with all my old friends, family, and hopefully lots of new friends.  So come on down, it’s gonna be a blast.
Scott and I have lots of convention plans in the works and we decided we definitely need a big Vinyl JOHNNY backdrop so people can find us in the craziness that is the convention floor (Plus they just look so damn cool).  So I give you the pencils to the banner I’m working on right now.  Kind of a Drew Struzan-esque JOHNNY RECON Movie montage poster.
I’ll keep you all updated with each step, i’ll hopefully get around to the inks tonight.

JOHNNY RECON No. 01 NOW IN STORE (more coming soon!)
I distinctly remember back when I was a wee lad and my brother brought me to a little Minneapolis convention at the Thunderbird hotel in Bloomington or wherever the hell that place is, I believe the convention is now the big FALLCON convention in the Grand Stand, and rifling through the grab bag full of mostly flyers for shops in the area.  I came upon one little neon flyer that had the headline, “Come to the COMIC BOOK COLLEGE OF COMIC BOOK KNOWLEDGE.”
I’d say for a good month I annoyed my parents, and especially my brother, by repeating that headline over and over and over and…
…AND now they’re my hometown comic shop.  Their reward?  They get to be the first to have JOHNNY RECON No.01 on their shelves.  What a prize! ;)
So if you’re in the Uptown area of Minneapolis, you can now go grab a signed copy of JOHNNY RECON No.01 right off the shelves.  In fact, please do, the more we sell at stores, the more likely they will order No.02 and so forth from our distributor.
3151 Hennepin AveMinneapolis, MN 55408-2620(612) 822-2309
On the corner of Hennepin and 32nd.
Say hi to the owner and his employees.  You couldn’t meet a nicer bunch of guys.
They were also kind enough to put a RELEASE PARTY poster on the outside of their store.  Remember, September 18th!
In the coming month, Scott and I will try getting JOHNNY RECON into as many stores in the Twin Cities as possible.  It’s a great town that really respects the independent creators.
Alright, Stay Tuned!

JOHNNY’s been “Doctored!”
By a good friend of POPGUNPULP, Evan “Doc” Shaner.
Evan was kind enough to put together a quick sketch of Johnny in Chicago for us.  If you haven’t seen this guy’s stuff you MUST go check it out.  He’s got a killer style and much like myself, loves the “adventure stories of ol’.”
You can see Doc Shaner’s work at his blog.  Click HERE.

Hey everybody!
This has been long overdue.
Things have been crazy, crazy good, since we got back from the Chicago Comic-Con.  I know I have a ton of e-mails to respond to, something i’m not always the best at.
We wanted to say thanks to everyone who stopped by our table and said hi.  We really had the time of our lives and it was because of all of you.  Scott and I are still completely blown away by the fans’ reception to our little adventure book.  We can only hope to return the favor by bringing you the best issue No. 02 we can and that’s exactly what we’re doing right now.
We learned so much making this first issue and I really think you’ll all be blown away by what we’re planning on bringing to you with issue No 02.
Again, sincerely, for honest and true, thanks so much for all the kind words.  Can’t wait to see you all again!
Some recent Johnny Recon news:
We just took our first international order, to France! Viva La France!
We still have a limited number of Chicago sketchbooks and prints left, available online in our store.  Original art from issue No.01 will be in the store very soon.
We’re 99% sure we’ve narrowed down the location of the JOHNNY RECON No.01 release party, so if you’re in the twin cities area (Minnesota), stay tuned.  It’s going to be a blast!  News on that coming real soon, we have some very exciting stuff planned.
Scott has plotted out the first 4 issues and has started the script to issue No.02!
It’s time to announce I’m writing issues No.05-07.  Scott has been gracious enough to let me hop behind the keys for a story arc and boy do I have some craziness planned for you guys!
That’s all I can think of for now.  If I think of anything else i’ll let you know. ;)
Time to go save the world from Nazi Zombies.  Somebody has to do it.

PS.  Almost forgot, we got a small little mention on Publisher’s Weekly, Heidi MacDonald’s “The Beat! http://pwbeat.publishersweekly.com/blog/2009/08/11/art-attack-johnny-recon/
